First Responders are exposed to extreme levels of trauma and toxic stress. The cumulative stress of the job compounds overtime. This can result in a life expectancy that is 15-20 years less than that of the rest of the working population, on average. Police Officers are lost to suicide at more than three times the rate of civilians. Substance Use Disorders are near 40% for Paramedics and EMT's. First Responders experience chronic medical issues and suffer from depression, anxiety, and PTSD at rates that far exceed the national average. They also experience higher divorce rates than the rest of the population.
“For First Responders, by First Responders. We’ve been there; we know the way out.”
Valor Station-Augusta is an Intensive Outpatient Program, specifically designed for First Responders. We offer a beautiful supportive housing facility for our out-of-town clients. Constructed just prior to the Civil War, it feels more like home than a “facility.”
Valor station was created to ensure that first responders have the best culturally competent treatment facility available to them without the financial burden and distress of expenses not covered by health insurance. It is our goal to expand in order to address the pandemic levels of suffering that our countries first responders currently struggle with. Valor station believes that we need to care for our First Responder community the serves us all. Valor station will subsidize uncovered expenses of our clients through benefactors, private donations, and grants.
