Chief Executive Officer
Wounded Warrior Program – Military (WWP)
Dr. David Godbold, PhD, is a nationally recognized leader in veteran advocacy and federal program development, with more than 40 years of experience working with the U.S. Department of Defense and military‑affiliated organizations. He serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Wounded Warrior Program – Military (WWP), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting wounded warriors and veterans as they transition to civilian life.
The Wounded Warrior Program was established in 2002–2003 through a collaborative effort involving the Department of Defense, AbilityOne.gov, Fort Bragg, and senior military and federal stakeholders. Since its founding, WWP has partnered with the Department of the Army, Womack Army Medical Center, SOCOM, Warrior Transition Battalions, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and members of Congress to address critical challenges facing wounded service members and veterans.
Drawing on four decades of Department of Defense collaboration, Dr. Godbold has led initiatives that connect veterans to meaningful employment, healthcare resources, and stable housing. WWP works with federal agencies and private‑sector partners to secure government contracts and commercial opportunities for U.S. companies committed to hiring wounded veterans, including qualified spouses and dependents.
WWP programs operate independently through organizations holding GSA Schedules, AbilityOne certifications, and FedMall (FSSI) authorization, ensuring compliance with federal procurement standards. Through partnerships with AbilityOne, National Industries for the Blind, and SourceAmerica, WWP supports more than 155 military base supply stores that employ visually and physically impaired veterans and Americans with disabilities.
Dr. Godbold also works to secure housing solutions for homeless veterans and collaborates with the Department of Veterans Affairs to help veterans access critical healthcare services. WWP operates with strong fiscal discipline, and its 22‑member Military Directors Board serves on a voluntary, uncompensated basis.
